OUR STORY

From the time I was a little kid I've been fascinated by people who make things and by how they do what they do.  I've dedicated my entire life not just to making things, but to making things that help people with their own making.  That usually starts with me trying to learn as much as I can from whomever is willing to teach me about a new craft, then practicing the craft myself, and finally trying to share back anything that I've learned or anything that I've made that helped me out.

That is Monkey Stuff's mission: to try and share some of the excitement and joy that comes from own making with other makers.  Indulging our curiosity, exercising the creativity that each of us has, and putting our hands to work are things that can both fulfill and connect us.  Here at Monkey Stuff we're proud to help in whatever way we can to encourage and support more making.

KEVIN SCOTT

Kevin Scott is the founder of Monkey Stuff.  Kevin is a computer scientist and engineer by training, and a lifelong tinkerer and maker. Starting with furniture projects with his father and grandfathers as a kid, Kevin has always had a deep respect for and admiration of craft and craftsmanship, and a desire to make things in order to better understand both.

Among other things, Kevin is a competent woodworker, a decent machinist, a reasonable leather worker and sewist, a novice but curious bookbinder, a very nascent jeweler and metalsmith, a passable welder and metal fabricator, an increasingly capable ceramicist, an ok designer, and an expert creator of and user of digital tools.

Given time and opportunity, he will try to be the maker of many other types of things before he dies. Purely coincidently, in his day job, Kevin is CTO of Microsoft, and prior was an engineer and engineering leader at Google, AdMob, and LinkedIn.
